Udupi, Nov 23: The inauguration ceremony of the centenary year of St John the Evangelist Church Pangla was held with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass on November 22.
As soon as Bishop Jerald Isaac Lobo was received at the church’s entrance gate, he inaugurated a huge banner depicting information of the centenary year. Prior to the Holy Eucharist, the bishop inaugurated the centenary jubilee year logo and the prayer leaflets. Fr Lawrence Mendonca, a senior priest from Shankarapura parish released special vehicle's stickers on this occasion.
In his homily, the bishop complimented the Pangla parishioners for their strong faith in the Lord and trust in the powerful intercession of St John the Evangelist."The jubilee is a remembrance. All need to live that faith which was sown 100 years ago. We need to build families and not buildings. Life of prayer, forgiveness and love should be inculcated in the families,” he said.
Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, parish priest, thanked the bishop, priests and parishioners for their presence and prayers. During this inauguration programme of the centenary celebration, Fr Anil pinto, assistant priest, John Rodrigues, vice president, Anitha D'Souza, secretary, Seema Margaret D'Souza, commissions coordinator, and Fr Leslie D'Souza, parish priest of Mount Rosary were present.
