Strong Quake Strikes off Indonesia


Jakarta, Nov 17 (DPA) An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale stuck early Wednesday off Indonesia's Maluku islands, but there were no reports of damage, the geophysics agency said.

The quake occurred at 3:06 a.m. Jakarta time (2006 GMT Tuesday), with the epicentre 210 km southwest of Tual town at a depth of 128 km, the Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency said.

There was no risk of a tsunami, the agency said.

A tsunami triggered by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake Oct 25 killed 448 people and left 56 missing on Indonesia's Mentawai islands.
