Udupi, Nov 18:
In a shocking accident, a woman and her son died on the spot when the Innova they were travelling in and a KSRTC Volvo bus collided near Muloor Bobbarya Temple, Kaup here on Thursday November 18 at around 6.15 pm.

File pic of Suhail with Congress leader Siddaramaiah at World Beary Convention, UAE

The deceased have been identified as Jaibunnisa (45) and her son Suhail (22). The Innova was plying from Udupi to Uchila, and KSRTC Volvo from Mangalore to Manipal. Anwar Uchila, Rafiq Paniyar, Abdul Saheb who were in the car sustained injuries. All are residents of Amina Sapha Manzil.

Suhail was an engineering student in Manipal. He was a bright student and had been recently honoured for his academic performance by Bearys' Cultural Forum in UAE.

Following the accident, furious locals pelted stones on two KSRTC Volvo buses and the police had to work hard to calm down the mob.

The NH 17 widening works are going on and as a result the edges of the road on both sides are steep. The locals complained that the road has been dug up on both sides and left in that state by the apathetic authorities, leading to mishaps.

Unfortunate. It is suggested to stop heavy vehicles overtaking. In UAE, no heavy vehicles can overtake. Heavy vehicles have to go in one lane only without overtaking. Why speeding. The traffic department have to work hard to find the
solution of overspeeding by these drivers.

Let us pray for those who lost their life. inna lillahi wa inna elaihi rajivon.

It is really sad to see the young people dying in road accidents. I insist on young people to drive carefully, slowly and with extreme caution. Even if you are reaching your destination late, it does'nt matter. you should reach safe. that's most important. life is very precious and losing it causes pain and devastation to the loved ones. So please drive carefully and with utmost caution. never drive if you're under the influence of alcohol or sedative drugs. May their souls rest in peace!!!

From the depth of my heart and on behalf of BCF, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the next kin’s of the deceased, both the mother and the son. Every one, once born are destined face the death. But it really hurts when an extremely talented child like Suhail, whom, hardly 4 months back the BCF has honoured for scoring highest marks in the Exam, has succumbed to the tragic accident in Moolur. May Allah bless the Son and the Mother with eternal peace in his heavenly abode and may Allah give strength to their family and relatives to overcome this trauma.-M.E.Moolur.

It's indeed sad. May be bus driver is to be blamed but then how do we condone "furious locals" pelting stones on two KSRTC Volvo buses? We can not justify stoning buses saying the it was out of rage. It is time that we educate our children and youth not to be carried away by emotions. Damaging buses don't bring back the dead to life!

Too little is being too late. The road widening should have started atleast 5 years ago when the traffic was not what it is today. Roads accidents resulting in fatalities is been common these days on NH-17's Udupi-Mangalore stretch. The road widening work is also being done in an unplanned manner. The concept of barricading does not even exist in the books of the local authorities. I think that it is high time that these authotities studied some lessons on road safety and implemented them and also made sure that the contractors involved in the road widening work, followed the basic safety rules. A few days back I travelled to Madikeri, and similar road widening work is going on on that road too. I was suprised to see only 4 - 5 ft width of road left for vehicles to ply on after digging up deep trenches on both sides of the road. How can we expect any vehicles to move on a strip like that? Enough of lives have been lost on the Udupi-Mangalore highway. The reasons, rash driving coupled with bad road conditions, a catastrophic mix.Good quality roads (4 lane with Dividers) without potholes has been the requirements for quite a few years. But it seems like our useless government is just busy with filling their pockets and that of their relatives and with infighting within the party to pay any attention to the development of the state. Good news is that the widening of the road has started. Although, we still dont know how long we have to wait before the roads are ready for use

nothing new, my dear Karnataka, our govt. loots our money, and they don't. have money to rapair our road. Govt. have use common sense when ur making road, there should be atleast one side 3 lines and other side 3 line, both the side foot path, lot of parking area, all these thinks if u not do then this accident will happen everyday. we have many intellegent engineers in our mangalore and karnataka state. but our govt. not taking idea from these engg. ( Dear Govt. go and see Dubai Road if u don't. visit gulf / europe country u don't. understand meaning of safe road.) if u still did'nt under pls. give me a chance with 6 month i will do road like dubai. ( this my challenge for Karnataka Govt.)
