Mangalore: Lokayukta Not to Probe Land Scams - Justice Santosh Hegde

Mangalore, Nov 19: “In the backdrop of a judicial enquiry having been ordered by the state government into the land scams in the state, the Lokayukta does not intend to carry out any investigation on its own,” clarified state Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde. He added that in case the report of the judicial investigation is found to be not impartial, the Lokayukta may take up the probe of the land scams, provided it receives a complaint to this effect. He added that the Lokayukta does not have suo motu powers to take up such probes on its own.
He was speaking to the media persons at the College Day celebration of Capitanio Composite P U College in the city on Friday November 19. He was the chief guest at the programme.
A programme of interaction that was held between Lokayukta, Santosh Hegde, and the students of the college at 9.25 am today in the premises of the institution went on for 45 minutes.
MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, participated as the guest of honour. In his address, he said that education leads to enlightenment of individuals. He expressed grief over the fact that of late, the younger generation has been treating education just as a tool to bag jobs.
Later, he distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. During the prize distribution, he interacted and lauded each winner for their efforts. This gesture came in for the appreciation of the audience and parents, who were present in large numbers on the occasion.
Sr Humbeline, correspondent, Capitanio Institutions, presided over the programme. Sr Harriet Pinto, principal, welcomed the gathering.
Stage and Cultural programmes, which were held later, succeeded in enthralling the audience.
