Kaup, Dec 4: As a result of the recklessness of a lorry driver, a motorbike rider was killed and the pillion rider sustained serious injuries. The accident happened on the night of Thursday December 2 in front of Arafa Hotel, Uchila on national highway 66.
It is said that the driver of a lorry that had been parked by the side of the highway suddenly moved the vehicle to the highway without giving any indication of his intention. The unsuspecting motorbike rider identified as Harish Acharya (32) from Avaralu Mattu in Palimaru village, who was caught unawares, rammed into the lorry from behind. The pillion rider, Rajesh, was admitted into a private hospital at Udupi with serious injuries. The motorbike was moving on the left lane of the highway when it hit the rear right side of the truck from behind
Harish along with his relative, Rajesh from Soorinje, had left in a motorbike, duly informing the family that they would be back after visiting Uchila. When they reached near Arafa Hotel in Uchila, the accident happened. Both the injured youngsters were taken to a private hospital in Udupi in an ambulance but Harish had breathed his last before reaching there. Rajesh is being treated, and the front portion of the motorbike suffered damages in the accident.
The deceased was unmarried. He used to work as a construction supervisor. He is survived by parents, two brothers and two sisters. Padubidri police have registered a case against the lorry driver.
