Udupi, Nov 20: One person was killed and several injured in a chain accident that involved a bus, tempo, an autorickshaw and a Bolero car. The mishap occured on national highway 17 near Katpady in Kaup police station limits here on Saturday November 20.

The deceased has been identified as Moidin (45), of Mallar. Son of D Kasim Beary of Muloor, Moidin was the driver of the tempo.

On Saturday he was driving his goods tempo from Kaup to Udupi when a speeding bus plying from the opposite direction rammed into the tempo, before crashing onto an autorickshaw and a Bolero as well.

Moidin was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to injuries. The others who sustained minor injuries have been admitted to the hospital.

Traffic on the highway was disrupted for a while following the accident.

Moidin was the sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife and 12 children, and the death of the family's head has plunged them into dire straits. His colleagues at the Kaup tempo stand decided to be off-duty on Saturday as a mark of respect.

Kaup police have registered a case in this regard.

My condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased and who have now to go through the most difficult period of their lives.

This is a phenomenon going on all over the country where at least thousand or more people are getting killed in accidents which could have been avided had we had good roads ,good engineering skills, competant non corrupt politicians amongst all parties, efficient enforcement of law, speed regulator in buses ,good education for our public....the list is endless as far as India is concerned. There is no one cause but our whole system and outlook has to change.Over the past 10 years the country has become more prosperous and suddenly there has been a traffic /vehicle explosion but our infrastructure has remained the same owing to a multiple of causes. Our road widening schemes are mired in controversies with problems in landaquisitions ,poor engineering and on top of all seeped in corruption with no accountability. Even in those ares where road widening has occured people do not follow the rules. I was shocked to find that there was no concept of lane discipline in India. It might be due to two causes. Either they might not have had any education or it is their callous attitude and the inability of enforcement agencies to implement the rules. The answer I feel is all the three of above. It is high time the country introduced road traffic safety awareness etc in its school curriculum as there is a need to start from basics.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioun. With in a week this is the third incident took place & ended to death. We cannot blame the drivers. Its the Govt duty to come up with separate lanes for both the tracks & this will happen after 100 years may be..

Sad demise May Mr.Moidin's soul rest in peace,I agree that roads are bad but drivers should aware of that, bus drivers are speeding like anything they are just careless. Traffic police not watchful in this case.
I really feel pity for Moidin's wife and 12 year old kid.God may give them strength and courage to live up their life.

very sad news... blame goes to our traffic inspector or RTO who issues license for every one for silly money along with poor road condition of our N.H 17 ( such a busy road-24 hours a day) and no one bothered improving or monitoring the speed limit or whatever prevent such incidents... wot is our local MLA, MP, MINISTERS doing? making money for their family or involved in public service ?
