KSCA Elections: Anil Kumble Elected President, Srinath Secretary

Bangalore, Nov 21 (PTI): In a historic day for the Indian cricket, former Test captain Anil Kumble was on Sunday elected President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and the group led by him won 23 out of the 24 posts that went to the polls.

Kumble defeated Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, scion of the Mysore Royal family, by a margin of 33 votes.

Former fast bowler Javagal Srinath became the Honorary Secretary after defeating former umpire AV Jayaprakash.

Srinath's pace colleague in his playing days, Venkatesh Prasad, Roger Binny and Sadanand Mayya were elected Vice-Presidents.

Binny, who was re-elected to the post, said these elections will change the face of the cricket in the state.

"It's a land mark victory which will change the perception of sportsmen entering into the administration. Personally for me, this is one of the sweetest victories in an election," said Binny, the hero of the 1983 World Cup wining Indian team.

Asked about the aim of the new elected team, he said, "Cricket and cricketers will get the foremost priority. Our main endeavour will be to improve the standard of cricket in Karnataka and develop a great infrastructure at the grassroots level."

Congratulations to Anil Kumble and Company for winning the KSCA election. More clean sportspersons like Kumble should be elected in all sports organisations. The heavy weights with their money power enter such sporting committee through back doors and siphon money from them through corrupt means. In the bargain, the sports take the beating. That is the reason why our country does not have world standard sportspersons.

Give one district to every cricketer. Now that the Karnataka cricketers have taken up the challenge of improving cricket in our state I have a suggestion to Kumble and company. Each one of the KSCA office bearers should be made responsible for one district to improve cricket there. There will be some very fine and healthy competition and one will surely more cricketers from outside Bangalore hitting the headlines. For example, look at Rahul from Suratkal who is now looking good in the Karnataka Ranji team. Likewise, there will be so many others from every part of Karnataka who will come from behind and shine for the state. These boys may, who knows, eventually play for the country.
All the best dear Kumble whom I met when he was in Dubai last time. A very nice and reasonable personality, I have no doubt that he along with Srinath, Binny, Prasad, Dravid and others will take Karnataka to the top.
Every cricket lover of Karnataka will keenly see how the new team performs !

Mr. Alwyn Neermarga.. I think u dont have any work other than commenting others... If you are so much worried about the poor people then y dont u take the initiative and make the poor people happy?? Even I am not Rich.. I am also from middle class family.. there are many ways to work... Instead of commenting like this y dont u start some work by your self and employe the poor people??? Even Kumble was not from Rich Family... He too from poor family hailing from Kumble in Kerala and because of his aims he grabbed all opportunities and today he is there at the Top.... Before commenting please mind your Business...

Congratulations to the newly elected team. I think this is one of the wise decisions made by any sport govening body in India giving chnace to head & lead the sports organisation by the sports personalities. Unlike the practice in India where politicians lead the sports body and do nothing but curruption...! This is an eye opening for BCCI to get rid of all the politicans from the governing body and bring in past cricketers to head & lead the BCCI.
Wishing all the very best to the new team headed by Anil Kumble and hope KSCA lead by example.

Congrats Kumble and its team. The vast experience in cricket will help Karnataka in bringing out the talents from rural areas. Till today the top posts were held by the Politicians or by the powerful persons who had little knowledge of Cricket/Sports. an Humble request to Kumble is to set up cricket stadiums at the district level and to bring out the hidden talents.
