Puttur, Dec 8: With reference to a case in which a youth had allegedly tried to rape a girl who was walking by the hanging bridge at Peraje in Mandekolu village six years back, the Puttur court which heard the case filed under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), held the accused guilty.
Krishna alias Changunu, resident of Maiyala Kannamgolu colony in Delampady village, Kasargod district, who was named as accused, has been sentenced. On the basis of a complaint made by the girl's father, Sullia police had registered a case, investigated it, and filed a charge sheet. Judge of the court, Rudolph Pereira, who conducted the hearing, concluded that the charges levelled against the youth have been proved.
The judge has sentenced the youth to seven years imprisonment. He also has been imposed with a fine of Rs 25,000. Out of the fine, Rs 20,000 has been ordered to be disbursed to the girl. Dakshina Kannada district Legal Services Authority has been ordered to pay a compensation of four lac rupees to the girl.
The prosecution was represented in the case by Pushparaja Adyantaya, special public prosecutor of POCSO special court.
