New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) Ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit next month, Germany Tuesday reiterated its support to India's bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
"We are fully behind the G4 (the alliance among Brazil, Germany, India and Japan). Germany supports India in the UNSC and India also supports the other three members of the G4," Germany's ambassador to India Thomas Matussek said.
Matussek was speaking at a seminar on "Germany and India - Partners in addressing common challenges" organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs here.
The ambassador said the four aspirants for permanment membership to the Security Council cannot stand on their own and "need to have each others' support and only then they can have required support (from other countries)".
The reassurance from the German envoy comes before Manmohan Singh visits Germany and Brussels next month.
Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan have formed the G4 alliance to support each other's bids for permanent UN seats.
