Oman: MCCP's Annual Children's Cricket Tourney Witnesses Enthusiastic Participation

The teams led by Aldin Vivian D'Souza and Relitsa Correa, daughter of Dilip Correa of Daijiworld.com and active community supporter, emerged champions in the senior and junior divisions respectively of the Annual Children’s Cricket Tournament organised by the Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the parish (MCCP - Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ruwi) recently at the Muscat Sports Club Grounds, Al Wadi Al Kabir.

Henry Martis, eminent Mangalorean of Muscat and leader of the community with a history of organising events like Konkani Utsav, was the chief guest for the event, which commenced after registration ceremony of the participants by Celine D'Souza, community services secretary and Jacintha Serrao, internal auditor. Henry Martis was escorted to the inauguration arena by Vivian Pereira and Lenita Lobo presented the bouquet.
 
Reena Lobo, spiritual secretary of MCCP welcomed the participants. The first lady president of MCCP Monica Dantis extended warm welcome to the children and everyone present at the venue. Prayer ceremony to invoke heavenly blessings was conducted by Shaina D'Souza.
 
Suraj Rebello, architect of many successful MCCP sports events and Dolly Gomes, patron of MCCP sports programmes for the past several years carried out the formation of the teams and conducted the tournament.
 
In the senior category the team of Aldin Vivian fought a tough match with the team led by Sherwin D'Silva and won the first place. In the junior division theteam led by Relitsa Correa became the champions after beating Lenita Lobo's team.

The sponsors of the tournament were Omantel, Mumtaz Tea and Oman Foodstuff Factory - Al Mudhish.
 
The prize distribution ceremony was held at the end and the winners were awarded medals. The guests of honour of the prize distribution ceremony were Henry Martis, Valerian Dantis, past main coordinator of MCCP, Cyprian Misquith, vice-president, sports and cultural events and Lancy Lobo, vice-president, cultural, spiritual and community services.
 
Vote of thanks was proposed by Reena Lobo.
 
There was a lucky draw for the early birds who arrived at the tournament between 3 pm and 3.15 pm. The winners were Melita Rodrigues, Venessa Rego, Shane D'Souza, Pearl Menezes, Larina Pinto, Alston Moras, Bertyl Noronha, Shancy Mendonca, Vinitha Monis and Ryan Fernandes.
