Decision on Yeddyurappa on Wednesday Morning: BJP

New Delhi/Bangalore, Nov 23 (IANS):
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday November 23 night said it will announce its final decision on Wednesday November 24 morning on the fate of beleaguered Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who is battling allegations of favouring his close relatives with prime land.

"We will make our position clear on all issues in Karnataka. Everything will be announced on Wednesday," BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay told reporters in Delhi.

The party's announcement comes ahead of a crucial meeting between Yeddyurappa and BJP president Nitin Gadkari scheduled late Tuesday night.

Vijay repeated the party's allegations that the Congress was pressing for Yeddyurappa's removal "to divert attention from the raging 2G spectrum allotment scam and other corruption issues".

He said the BJP government in Karnataka had ordered an inquiry by a retired judge into the allegations against Yeddyurappa while the Congress government was dodging the demand for a joint parliamentary committee probe into the 2G spectrum scandal.

The BJP announcement in Delhi came even as the Lokayukta in Karnataka criticised the way the chief minister handled the allegations regarding the land allotment.

On the second day of his stay in the national capital, Yeddyurappa met senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu and later said that he will abide by the party's decision.

"I have worked hard to build the party. There is no question of not obeying the party's decision," the chief minister told reporters.

Naidu said the party leaders were still studying documents given by Yeddyurappa on land deals during the previous Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) rule. "We will take a decision and Yeddyurappa will abide by it," Naidu added.

Gadkari has been authorised by senior party leaders to take a final call on whether to allow Yeddyurappa to continue or ask him to quit.

The chief minister has ordered a probe into land scams since 1995, but the JD-S, which has been releasing documents alleging illegal land deals by him, said in Bangalore that it will boycott the enquiry.

JD-S leader H.D. Revanna, son of former prime minister and JD-S chief H.D. Deve Gowda, said "the probe cannot bring out the truth".

The probe "will not serve any purpose and the JD-S will boycott it," he told reporters.

Yeddyurappa announced Monday that retired Karnataka High Court judge B. Padmaraj will enquire into residential plot allotment by the Bangalore Development Authority and ‘denotification' of land by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board and other agencies since 1995 to the present day.

Meanwhile, Lingayat community leaders in the Congress Tuesday criticised the heads of the Lingayat community mutts (religious institutions) for coming out in support of Yeddyurappa as chief minister.

"It is a disgrace for the entire Lingayat community if religious institutions' heads start indulging in politics to defend a corrupt chief minister and other politicians on the basis of community," they told a press conference in Bangalore.

The press meet was addressed by M.P. Prakash, a former minister, Veeranna Mattikatti, former chairman of the legislative council, Rani Satish, former head of state Congress women's cell, and legislator Amaregowda Bayyapura.

Yeddyurappa is a Lingayat and a frequent visitor to these mutts as well as various temples.

If a state level leader like Yeddi can create so much tension to a national party like BJP, it clearly shows how strong is the party. When they voted BJP both at the central and state, people thought they will bring some transformation into the Governance. But they proved on the contrary making people think ' Bad or worse, congress is the best". They are corrupt, but during their regime work was not hampered. But in BJP rule their party members only loot the entire kitty :)

I think this is the end of BJP era in this country, and common person will teach them a very good lesson to these politicians. It is high time that Yeddi should accept his misdeeds and resign without threatening the leadership about the consequences of election. Who is he to force elections in the state now and spend a few crores of taxpayers hard earned money. Government should confiscate all the loot and conduct elections out of it.

One thing is certain. BJP can not speak about corruption. Put up and shut up. Continue to cheat people in the name of communal trump card. Grant favours to temples and people believe that you are the savior of Hindus.

    Dear all,
It is not a question of BSY resigning or not.
The whole lot of Indian politicians are rotten and almost all are corrupt to the core.
When someone spends crores of rupees during election, it is a small inbestement for making crores of rupees during their tenure.
Please find me a honest politcian and I will hand over all my life,s savings.
