Udupi: Duping People with Lure of Jobs – Two Held

Udupi, Nov 24: Jaya Shetty from Havanje village, and Saroja Shetty from Perdoor in the district, were arrested by Mahesh Prasad, sub-inspector of Kota police station, and other personnel, from near a hotel in the town on Tuesday November 23.

The two allegedly have duped a number of persons by promising them government jobs. The modus operandi employed by them was to claim that they were in good terms with some political bigwigs, and that they have the connections with the right people to get jobs for unemployed persons. Nirava Sanket Arjun Swamy from Kody village had complained to the policemen that trusting the words of the duo, he had raised loans from known people and paid Rs 9.4 lac to them, hoping to bag a government job soon. Likewise, Dinesh Shettigar from Karkala Bajaroly had paid three lac rupees, Suresh Kharvi from Kody Kanyana had lost two lac rupees, Mrityunjaya from Mangalore had given Rs 1.5 lac, Ravish from Kundapur had lost Rs 65,000, while Kishan from Kundapur had lost Rs 2.25 lac. All of them had filed complaints, after failing to either to the job or to receive the refund of money paid by them.

The policemen have gathered that these two persons had defrauded a number of unemployed people from Udupi, Manipal, Mandya and Karkala regions, by promising them government jobs. The two have an office in Kadiyali here, where they used to collect job applications from the people.
