RS adjourned second time over suspension of MPs


New Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS): The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday was adjourned second time till 2 p.m. following uproar in the house over suspension of 12 MPs. The opposition MPs held placards and walked up to the well of the house and raised slogans during the Question Hour and Deputy Chairman Harivansh Na rain Singh adjourned the house .

Earlier, as the proceedings started on Wednesday the Opposition members demanded their notices be accepted, but were rejected by the Chair and also revocation of suspension of the MPs, following which Chairman M. Venkiah Naidu adjourned the house till 12 noon.

Opposition MP Deepender Hooda of the Congress and Sushmita Dev of the TMC had given suspension notices on issue of Lakhimpur Kheri violence case under rule 267.

The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday has scheduled a short duration discussion on the situation arising out of the Omicron variant cases being reported in the country.

At least nine members have given notices on the Omicron variant issue, which is in surge in some parts of the world and some cases have been reported in the country also.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to move a Bill in the upper house on amendment to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 for consideration and amendment. The Bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha.
