Mangalore, Nov 26: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) national leader, N Krishnappa, felt that awards cannot be taken as yardsticks to measure the achievements of a human being. “The best award a person can get is the encouragement to continue to do the good work he has been doing,” he felt.

He was speaking at the felicitation function organized on Thursday at Sharada High School premises in the city by the employees of Sharada Group of Educational Institutions and several others for honouring Prof M B Puranik, president of Sharada Group, on his selection for the state level Rajyotsava Award. Krishnappa noted that Valmiki, who authored Ramayana, neither aspired for, nor was given any awards.

Krishnappa advocated for the basing of overall development of the country on the principles of righteousness and culture. He also impressed upon the need to conduct introspection on whether the sectors in which the government is involved have achieved real progress or improvement.

In his benedictory address, Pejavar Mutt Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji said that awards cannot take people to greater heights. He said that a human being, for being considered to be an exalted individual, needs to follow five basic oblations of dedicating oneself to the cause of welfare of people, worshipping the Lord, following the directions of sages and parents, preserving humanity etc. He expressed happiness at the award having been conferred on Puranik, duly appreciating for the work being rendered by him in the fields of education and conservation of cows.

Speakers like Pradipkumar Kalkura, Dr Madhava Bhandary, Kateel Lakshminarayan Asranna, Harikrishna Punaroor, Sharavu Raghavendra Shastri and several others too hailed the contribution made by Prof Puranik to the field of education.
