Mangalore, Nov 26: Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka assembly, Siddaramaiah slammed Yeddyurappa for continuing as chief minister despite the allegations of land scams leveled against him.
He was speaking at a press conference held at the district Congress committee office here on Friday November 26.
He questioned as to how Yeddyurappa, himself facing charges of nepotism and favouritism, could order judicial enquiry into land denotification scams in the last 15 years. The Lokayukta being a prime investigation commission has already initiated enquiry, hence there cannot be any parallel judicial enquiry, and such an enquiry would be against the Constitution, he insisted.
By appointing a separate commission of retired high court judges the CM has deceived the people of the state, he said.
He also urged the scraping of the judicial enquiry into land scams, and demanded Yeddyurappa’s resignation on moral grounds.
He asserted that BJP is working against the interests of the backward community by voicing against reservation for backward classes’ candidates in the upcoming zilla and taluk panchayat elections. He also demanded a caste-based survey of the population to study the actual status of backward community people in education, economy and other areas. A sum of Rs 2 crore which was reserved by him and Rs 2 crore allocated by the central government to conduct caste-based survey have gone waste due to BJP’s aloofness, he added.
Siddaramaiah also insisted that the CM ought to hold an assembly before any judicial enquiry is ordered into land scams and warned that the Congress would knock the doors of even the Supreme Court to obtain justice.
Among those present were MLA Ramanath Rai, Ivan D’Souza, Vinay Kumar Sorake, B A Moideen Bawa, Shashidhar Hegde and others.
