Udupi, Nov 27: Postgraduate department of Social Work, St Mary’s College, Shirva here held a national seminar on “Emerging perspectives of social work practice”at the college, recently.

The inaugural function was held at Saude Sabha Bhavan, Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva. Dr J Prasant Palakappilli CMI, principal, Sacred Heart College, Kerala  inaugurated the event by unfolding the Pingara. 

Jerry Vincent Dias, president, Builders' Association, Udupi, was the chief guest. Dr Surindar Jaswal, professor and dean of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai delivered a keynote address.

Fr Stany Tauro, correspondent of St Mary’s Educational Institutions, Shirva presided.

At the valedictory function, Dr P V Bhandari, director, Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi delivered the valedictory address and handed over the prizes to the winners.

There were several technical sessions, practical sessions, panel discussions, paper presentations, cultural competitions and there was excellent yakshagana on development issue called “Bangarada Jinke” performed by Anantaram Bangadi, Beltangady.

Programme was planned successful by the efforts of the organizing committee, Principal, staff and students of St Mary’s College, Shirva.
