New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS) The prices of onion are likely to fall further in the capital with the increase in the arrival of good quality onions at the wholesale Azadpur vegetable market from the next week, the agriculture ministry said Saturday.

According to agri-cooperative NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation), the wholesale prices of onion in Azadpur market coming from Maharashtra's Nashik are ruling between Rs.1,750-Rs.2,250 per quintal with the modal rate of the new crop being Rs.2,000 per quintal.

The old crop is available at Rs.2,500-Rs.3,000 per quintal with modal rate of Rs.2,750.

The total arrivals of new crop are 800 quintals and of the old crop, 300 quintals.

The ruling prices of onion from Rajasthan's Alwar is between Rs.1,500-Rs.2,200 per quintal with modal rate Rs.1,850 on total arrivals of 25,000 quintal. The arrival of onion from Rajsthan has also increased at Azadpur.

Since Nov 16, NAFED is selling onion at the rate of Rs.25 per kg through its outlets in Delhi. It is also monitoring the arrivals and prices of onion on a regular basis.
