Mangalore: Chandre Gowda Stresses on Having Faith in Democratic Principles

Mangalore, Nov 29: MP from Bangalore north constituency, D B Chandre Gowda stressed the need for the people to have complete faith in democratic principles in every walk of life. “The country will function like well-oiled machinery, if people realize the importance of democracy and be conscious of this fact while discharging their duties,” he felt.

He was addressing the regional conference of Lions Club held in the city on Sunday January 29.

He exhorted the elected peoples’ representatives to introspect about the political situation in the country and the state, how far the people are abiding by legal provisions, whether ideals are being followed, etc. He said that the Lokayukta institution, set up by the government, has the power to question those who tread the wrong path. He felt that criticizing the Lokayukta is like questioning the law.

Lions Club regional chairman, M Arun Shetty, presided. Former Lions district governor, N Srinivas Rao, participated as guest. First Lady of the region, Indira A Shetty, inaugurated the conference.

Immediate past president, Patric Patrao, M B Sadashiv, P Kishore Kumar K, Philip Pereira, Ronald Gomes, Srinath, Jagadish, Venugopal Shetty, Yogish Kumar Jeppu, K Venugopal Shenoy, K Mohan Kamath and several others were present.
