Mangalore: Seven-year RI for Rape-accused

Mangalore, Dec 1: The district second additional court here has sentenced an accused relating to rape and murder threat, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000, finding him guilty of the charges levelled against him. The case relates to the raping of a minor girl in Pachchanady here on January 14, 2006.

The court held that charges against Nagaraj (38), a native of Gandehalli near Belur, who used to live in Pachchanady in the past, have been proved.

The accused allegedly invited a poor, nine-year-old girl, who was collecting waste paper during her school holidays, to his house, claiming that he had lot of waste materials with him. He took her in his motor bike to a deserted place near Bodantila village, where he raped her. When the girl protested, he had allegedly threatened to kill her.

The court has ordered for the payment of the fine of Rs 10,000 to the victim.
