Sullia, Dec 2: In an incident that occurred opposite community hospital here on Wednesday December 1, two Congress stalwarts came to blows. Reportedly, Congress leader and former zilla panchayat member, Dhananjay Adpangaya, assaulted former block Congress president and veteran of cooperative movement, Nitayananda Mundody.

Mundody, who participated in a programme organized at Mandekolu village, had reached Sullia in his vehicle. In a complaint filed with the local police station, Mundody said that he had stopped his vehicle opposite community hospital to enable Gundanna, who had been travelling in his vehicle, to get down there. He alleged that Dhananjay Adpangaya, who was walking past the place at the time, caught hold of his collar and beat him up. It is said that Congress leaders, P C Jayaram and Kushalappa, who were in Mundody’s vehicle, intervened and stopped the assault. Mundody, who got admitted into the hospital, is being treated there.

A number of Congress leaders, activists, and Mundody’s fans, rushed to the hospital after hearing the news.

In a counter complaint filed with the policemen, Dhananjay Adpangaya said that while he was going to his new shop from the old one, Nityananda Mundody saw him, and ridiculed him for failing in his efforts to become the block president of the party. “I have finished your political career. Likewise, I will also see that your business will sink,” Mundody is said to have threatened Adpangaya.

The policemen, who have registered both the complaints, are investigating.
