Udupi: Anti-naxal Squad's Prize Catch - CPI Maoist Madurai Area Commander Held

Udupi, Dec 2: Anti-naxal squad on credible information of banned CPI Maoist organization movement in the Udupi forest area, conducted anti-naxal operation and arrested Shekar alias Ranjith alias Ravi alias Prem (25) from the deep forest in Basavanpalu, Yedammoge village on Wednesday December 1.
Addressing presspersons on Thursday December 2, inspector general of police (western range) Alok Mohan said that on interrogating the arrested, he revealed himself to be Madurai area commander of banned CPI Maoist organization, Shekar alias Ranjith alias Ravi alias Prem (25), son of Nataraju and resident of Kumaramangalam, Pallipattu, Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu (TN), on whom a reward of Rs 1 lac was fixed by the TN police department. Five gelatin sticks, 10 detonators, wicks, medicine prescription and banned literature of Maoist organization were also seized by the police from his possession, he said.
A case has been registered at the Shankernarayana police station in crime number 97/10 under section 121 (A) Indian Penal Code R/W 16(1) (B) Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Sec 4 and 5 Explosive Substance Act with 24 Karnataka Forest Act. Shekar has been produced before the JMFC court, Kundapur and has been taken into police custody for further investigation.
In Udupi to Train Naxals
Shekar came to Udupi one and half months ago specifically to impart field craft training, medical assistance to acting underground members of the organization and propogate Maoist ideology. He was also acting as a courier in between Karnataka and TN members of the organization.
Two Cases Against him in TN
Shekar is already involved in two cases in TN, one involving sedation and the other in Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. TN police department has declared Rs 1 lac reward prize on Shekar.
