Catholic priest, 2 others held under anti-conversion law in MP

Bhopal, Dec 28 (IANS): Madhya Pradesh Police have claimed to have arrested three persons, including a Catholic Church priest and a Pastor allegedly for luring tribals to convert to Christianity.

As per the police, they were allegedly involved in luring the tribals in a village in Jhabua district, one of the key tribal populated areas in the state, for conversion.

Police said the action came on the basis of an FIR registered at a local police station in Jhabua district, which claimed that Father Jam Singh Dindore, Pastor Ansingh Ninama and a person named Mangu Mehtab Bhuriya lured tribal villagers to convert to Christianity by promising them free education and treatment in the missionary-run school and hospitals.

Police said the person who filed the complaint was identified as Tetiya Bariya, a tribal. The complainant has mentioned that "On December 26, Father Jam Singh Dindore called me and Surti Bai (another villager) to his prayer room and made us sit in a weekly meeting called for conversion. They sprinkled water on us and read the Bible."

All three of them have been charged under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021, which is known as the anti-conversion law, police said.

The complainant further added that he was asked to convert to Christianity with an offer of free health and education for his children, which he declined and informed the police.

Acting on the complaint, a case was registered and a team of local police reached Dindore's residence on Sunday afternoon and detained him. Later, the police arrested two more persons involved in the matter.

However, Christian Missionaries in Jhabua district have alleged that a smear campaign was being run in the tribal-dominated areas of Madhya Pradesh against them.

We Catholics are being used as scape goats in India although we are not converting. This hindutva is a cult apart from peaceful Hinduism which is converting wealthy foreigners with help of iskon, triple Sri etc. And the money donated by rich foreigners is used for politics in India, for luring more foreigners to join iskon. See hindutva has placed their members in almost all Parliament of world . They are becoming powerful day by day. They only like rich Hindus, their spoons and are friends with rich international Christian businessmen while they torture India Christians. Poor hindus they leave to die recent labourers died while walking during covid. Better Pope, religious heads wake up now stop Christians from leaving church. So many churches are empty in Europe bring them back. Make church vibrant with good day to day art of living sermons, introducing community get together etc. Indian Christians first live a good life give good values to your children. They are the foundation. When you go abroad for jobs try to invite foreigners to your get together. Foreigners love Indian culture so if they do garbaa they will also do mando. Make churches vibrant internationally and have SCC and other Catholic groups like we have in India. All clergy and laity, High time you come out of your pretending ignorance and be more interactive . Before it is end someone can convey this to Pope also to see that churches are more vibrant internationally It is not only elections but to advance business gains for rich hindutvadi bhakts in western countries by showing solidarity. While we sit commenting these hindutvadi take all the actions internationally and fund hatred in India. While we are happy with small menial jobs abroad they send their kids for higher studies in western countries so that they get good high paid jobs. If you keep quite now christians, more harm will befall better start acting fast at international level.

These are fabricated charges by BJP stooges. Just in one day by sprinkling water and reading the bible one doesn’t get converted. There is a procedure which takes years to be prepared and get converted. But before that there are legal and one’s clear conscience with complete will is been evaluated. Is it the same opinion of others who study in that tribal school?????. Are there any other people got converted before by force or is this drama only after 2014?????…FYI, churches are overwhelmed with people to get converted on thier own free will. So churches have asked them to go to the court requesting conversion and send that copy directly to the church. Only after that any conversion process will take place but reserved to the rights and satisfaction of the church.

These things will happen in Karnataka too. Just allege someone and with non-bailable arrest warrant the victims will languish in jails until proven not guilty, which is against the present law which assumes one is innocent until proven guilty.
