Patwari arrested for taking Rs 1 lakh bribe in Budgam


Srinagar, Dec 29 (IANS): The Jammu and Kashmir anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a 'Patwari' (Revenue Clerk) who was demanding and accepting Rs one lakh as bribe in J&K's Budgam district.

A statement by the ACB said, "Raja Mudasir Ali Khan, Patwari Halqa Kathwar, Khansahib, Budgam and his agent Nawaz Hussain Mir were arrested while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1,00,000 (One Lakh) for mutation of land records.

"ACB received a complaint alleging therein that Raja Mudasir Ali Khan, Patwari, Halqa Kathwar, Khansahib, Budgam is demanding Rs 1,00,000/- (one lakh) as bribe for affecting transfer of land in favour of the maternal cousins of the complainant.

"On receipt of the complaint Case FIR No 38/2021 under section 7 PC Act, 1988 was registered in this Bureau and investigation taken up.

"During the course of investigation a trap team was constituted by the ACB. The team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed -- Raja Mudasir Ali Khan, Patwari, Halqa Kathwar, Khansahib, Budgam while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 1,00,000/- (Rs 10,000 cash plus Rs 90,000 via cheque) from the complainant through agent namely Nawaz Hussain Mir.

"The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of independent witness. Accused Raja Mudasir Ali Khan along with agent Nawaz Hussain Mir were arrested on the spot. During the search of personal vehicle of the accused Rs 82,000/- (cash) was also recovered and seized. Search was also conducted at the house of the accused public servant.

"Further investigation in the case is going on".
