Karkala: Hometown Applauds Kabaddi Gold Medalist Mamata Poojary

Karkala, Dec 3: Mamata Poojary, who was a member of the Indian women's Kabaddi team that won the gold in the recently-concluded Asian Games, was accorded a grand welcome at her native town here on Thursday December 2.
A large gathering of sports enthusiasts including the local MLA were present to greet Mamata who was taken in an open jeep on Thursday night.
Over 300 people of her village Hermunde were present at her house when Mamata arrived home on Thursday midnight.
Mamata visited Jyoti High School of Bethany Sisters on Friday December 3 morning, where she had studied during her childhood. Fr Kiran honoured her on the occasion for bringing laurels to both India and her native village.
Mamata was taken in an open jeep up to Muniyal Pre-University College where she had done higher secondary studies and also congratulated by her former lecturers and the correspondent of College.
Ganeshotsav committee of Ennehole village in the neighbourhood presented a reward of Rs 10,000 on behalf of international athlete Apsara R Kateel.
Shivakumar, trustee of Radha Naik Education Trust presented a gold medal to Mamata, in recognition of her achievement in Asian Games.
Mamata in an emotional note said that she was pleasantly surprised to see people from all walks of life in the district congratulating her for bagging the gold in Asian Games. She acknowledged her love for Kabaddi and said that it was her childhood dream to excel in Asian Games. She also called on the youth to take keen interest in the game in order to bring more laurels to India.
