Mangalore, Dec 9: A release from M A Bavu, chief secretary of the Dakshina Kannada district unit of Jamaat, said that Muharram will be observed on December 16.

He said that the first moon was cited on the night of Tuesday December 7. As such, Tasooa will occur on December 15, and Ashoora will fall on the next day.

Bavu said that this clarification has been given as per the decision taken by Ullal Kazi Tajul Ulema Sayyid Abdul Rahiman Al Bukhari, and that communication to this effect was given to him by Ullal Jumma Masjid and Darga Committee president, U K Monu, and Udupi district Kazi, P M Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal Ustad.
