Government Trying to Cover Criminal Culpability: BJP

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) As the logjam in parliament continued for the 20th day, the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged Thursday that the government was denying the demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) into the 2G spectrum allocation to cover its "culpability".

"Government is taking a position it cannot defend. They are trying to cover their criminal culpability, which was allowing A. Raja (former telecom minister) to continue for two years. To cover this, they are not allowing a JPC," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters outside parliament.

"When the whole country is convinced about the corruption, the government is denying the democratic demand for a JPC. Massive corruption has been there and a joint probe by a JPC is needed in the 2G scam as well as the CWG and Adarsh society scams," Javadekar said.

"Even the Supreme Court is not satisfied with the probe, the CVC (Chief Vigilance Commissioner P. J. Thomas) is himself under a cloud.

"People can repose faith only in the parliament which will probe it through a JPC," he said.
