Madinah: Father Thanks Media, Police as Baby's Kidnap Ordeal Ends

MADINAH, Dec 10(Arab News): Badr Al-Mozaini, the father of a newborn baby boy who was kidnapped from a hospital in Madinah on Sunday and was found in a park on Wednesday, has thanked the media, police and well-wishers for their unwavering support.

The boy, Anas, is reportedly in good health and is with his mother in Madinah Maternity and Children's Hospital.

Informed sources had told Arab News that the father had received a SMS message late on Wednesday saying the child is in Azizia's Baeejan Park.

“I informed police about the message and went with them to the park and found the child there,” Al-Mozaini said.

“Madinah Gov. Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed called to congratulate me for the discovery of the baby,” Al-Mozaini said while expressing his gratitude to the prince for the interest he showed in the case.

The governor told Al-Mozaini that the case was under his continuous supervision. Anas' mother, despite the surgery and psychological pain, ran toward her son the moment she saw him and held him in her arms.

Director General of Madinah police Maj. Gen. Awad Al-Serhani, was also present in the hospital.

Police are now looking for the person who sent the message in order to find the culprit behind the kidnap.  Security guards have been preventing media persons from entering the hospital.

Abdul Razak Hafiz, spokesman of health affairs, was the first person to confirm to Arab News that the boy was found. He said Madinah police chief and health director have visited the baby at the hospital.

Muhammad Al-Oufi, chairman of the Madinah branch of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR), had blamed lax security at the hospital for the kidnap.  The child's grandmother had alleged a large dark woman with honey eyes — who frequently visited the room where the child and mother were — was behind the kidnap.

The security in the hospital has been beefed up.
