Former BJP Minister Michael Lobo joins Congress in Goa

Panaji, Jan 11 (IANS): A day after he resigned from the BJP, former Goa Minister Michael Lobo on Tuesday joined the Congress.

Lobo said that the Congress would win a majority in the Assembly polls which are scheduled to be held on February 14.

"The Congress will win 22 seats in 2022. The people of Goa want a change and the Congress will usher in this change," he told reporters after joining the party in the presence of senior Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao.

After resigning from the BJP on January 10, Lobo had said that the BJP in Goa was ignoring its core party workers.

"It has been quite a good, long journey with BJP. BJP workers are unhappy with the party. Maybe I am wrong also. I have seen with my own eyes, heard it with my own ears," Lobo said, adding that the party functioned differently after the demise of late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Very bad move. In fact it is a horrible move by the Congress to accept him into the fold. No Goa politician can be trusted and this guy will immediately turn his back on the party after the elections, and go where he is offered the maximum money and power. I have said time and again that the entire current brood of Goa politicians should be dumped and new honest and upright people should be brought in. Currently there is no word even in a dictionary to describe how corrupt a politician from Goa is.

This Lobo imported people from other states to his constituency to win the elections and votes. The Goa assembly passed a law also degrading the localities and giving residents and importing other state people so that they can win elections. Now he joined Congress and if he wins he will shift to any other party which makes him at least Deputy CM. These people are corrupt to the core. No principles only politics of gain. He must lose elections even if he was in BJP. Every politician in Goa is the same except for some seniors. For them, anything is an opportunity for self.

Why he did not quit earlier, most of these politicians are opportunists, when they come to know that their parties have sidelined them and there is no hope of getting a ticket to contest they jump ship and join other parties.
