Kasargod, Dec 11: A report received from Uppala near Kumble says that a mother has sold her five-day-old newborn to a family here for Rs 15,000.
It is gathered that the mother of the child, who hails from Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh, had sold the child to a family here. After selling the child, she decamped from here. The father-daughter duo had visited a house of a relative located in government quarters behind a petrol bunk in Uppala town, a month back. The lady, who was in the last days of her pregnancy, stayed here till she gave birth to a child, it is said.
The woman had delivered a female baby in a hospital in the town five days back. After selling the child to a family from the town, she left the place, purportedly for her native place. The policemen are now gathering information about the deal.
