Udupi, Dec 11:
In a fatal accident that occurred between a KSRTC Volvo bus and an auto rickshaw at midnight of Friday December 10 near police outpost, Hejamady, rickshaw driver Dinesh D Sherigar (39), a resident of Kotekeri, near Umamaheshwari temple in Mulki died on the spot.

He had gone on hire from Mulky to Hejamady and was returning from there at around 11.15 pm. The Volvo bus was plying from Mysore to Panaji.

A lorry which was parked on the highway near a dhaba was the cause for the accident, locals alleged.

On collision, the auto rickshaw turned turtle. Dinesh sustained serious head injuries and succumbed. Padubidri police have registered the case.

Apathy of police

Most of the lorry drivers from other states tend to park their vehicles on the side of the highway and go to Bittu dhaba. This has been brought to the notice of the Padubidri police, but they have failed to show any interest about the severity of the danger.

Dinesh, a humble and loyal person

Dinesh who worked as an auto rickshaw driver for many years was said to be a humble and loyal person. He was known for coming to the rescue of those who needed a lift in case of emergencies at any point of time. He had also helped in taking accident victims to hospitals in the surrounding areas of Mulki.

Mulki rickshaw union decided to be off duty for a day as a mark of respect to the deceased.
