Bengaluru, Jan 14: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief DK Shivakumar has extended his warm greetings to the people of Karnataka, especially the farmers, on the occasion of the Makara Sankranti festival.

In a message to the people on Friday, Shivakumar said the farmers are sacrificing for the sake of others and wished that they are blessed with good crops and a peaceful, healthy and prosperous life.

"Farmers need to be careful and take precautions. Fortunately, the Covid pandemic has not spread seriously in the rural areas. The farming community must take healthy and nutritious food and be prepared to face the pandemic. The government must take steps to ensure remunerative prices for the farm produce,’’ Shivakumar said in his message.

On the comments made by State BJP leaders that the Congress party has backed out of the Mekedatu padayatra, the KPCC Chief said: "The Congress party’s commitment cannot be questioned. We always stand by the people and fight for their rights. The BJP leaders are criticising and talking out of frustration. Let us talk about the padayatra in due course.’’
