Shillong, Dec 12 (IANS) A hideout of the breakaway faction of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was busted Sunday and five rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) were recovered, police said.
"A special operation team raided the hideout in Soenang forest area," Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtynger told IANS.
No militant was arrested in the early morning raid, he added.
The faction was led Joking Momin, who was killed Friday. He, along with three others rebels, were killed in a gun battle with the commandos of the Special Weapons and Tactics team.
Momin and few other militants had deserted GNLA due to differences with GNLA chairman Champion R. Sangma and the commander-in-chief Sohan D. Shira.
GNLA is a militant group fighting for a homeland for the Garo tribe in Meghalaya. The outfit is involved in large-scale extortion and kidnapping of coal miners in the area.
