Puttur, Jan 17: A gang of robbers not only stole a motorbike parked near Gandhi Park, Uppinangady but also threatened some Andhra-based workers living at Arla near Nellyadi and forcibly took away their mobile phones, cash and a motorbike. One of the bikes later met with an accident and its rider stands admitted into a hospital in unconscious state.
A complaint in this respect was registered in Uppinangady police station by Battalu Venkateshwarlu (30) from Kommavaram village in Andhra Pradesh.

Venkateshwarlu said in his complaint that he lives in a rented room and works in the underground drainage section of highway widening works. "On the night of January 13, a person came and demanded that my motorbike be handed over to him while the other who was seated on another bike near the highway menacingly wielded a weapon that resembled a hammer. Rs 200 kept in my shirt pocket was forcibly taken away.by the person who entered our room, who also took away four mobile phones apart from cash in a bag. He robbed us of items valued at about Rs 1.3 lac," he said in the complaint.
In the meantime, Muhammed from Adekkal in Hirebandady village had parked his bike near the Jain Basadi next to Gandhi Park Uppinangady when leaving for another district for some purpose. The gang took possession of the bike by using duplicate key. Muhammed's wife lodged police complaint in Uppinangady about this theft.
During the late night hours on January 13, a lorry hit the motor bike at Addahole after which its rider suffered grave injuries. He was admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru in an unconscious state. On the basis of the registration number of the bike, Muhammed was contacted after which the police were told that this bike was stolen.
It is said that the police have got crucial clue about the identities of the robbers. Uppinangady police who have registered ac case are investigating.
