Bangalore: Three Govt Officials Nabbed on Graft Charges


Bangalore, Dec 13 (PTI): Three government officials, including an Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax, were arrested by the Lokyukta police for allegedly accepting bribes, Lokayukta sources said.

Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax department, Udupi, H Nagaraj was arrested while accepting furniture worth Rs 45,000 as bribe from the owner of a furniture shop after threatening him that he would file a false complaint that he was not filing his returns regularly, Lokayukta sources told PTI.

A case of possessing assets disproportionate to his sources of income, registered in 2006 when he was serving in Tumkur district, is already pending against Nagaraj, they said.

Excise Inspector Ramesh was nabbed in Ramanagaram here for accepting bribe of Rs 62,900 from variouos wine shops in the area.

Sub-Treasury officer in Puttur (near Udupi), Venkatraman was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 for issuing a cheque toward gratuity amount of Rs 2.20 lakh to the son of a deceased person.
