Mangalore, Dec 14: The preparations for the ‘Lions Kannada Literature – Cultural convention’ organized by Lions Club Kadri Hills, Mangalore are on full swing said committee honorary president Harikrishna Punaroor while briefing the presspersons on Tuesday December 14.
He added Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade will inaugurate the convention on Friday December 17. H Dundiraj who will be the president of the event will be welcomed to the Townhall through a grand procession at 8.45 am. Mangala Naik, deputy director, Kannada and Culture Department will inaugurate the cultural programmes. The object of this convention is to cultivate literary sense among students. The organizers expect participation of 2,000 people.
Lions district governor J Krishnananda Rao will release special issue ‘Simha Ninanda’.
P Jayaram Bhat of Karnataka Bank and Manohar Prasad, bureau chief of Udayavani will be the guests.
On the same occasion 9 achievers will be honoured marking nine years of celebration. Ganga Padekal (Literature), B L Nagaraj (Scholar), Dinesh Holla (Art and Trekking), Bendaravady Subrahmanya Sharma (Contribution to Kannada literature) Raymond Monteiro (Research on water), Lokesh S Puthran (Saviour of lives), Jayalaxmi B R (Social Service), Kumari Geetha Bai (Sports) and Gangadar Piliyoor (Journalism) are to be honoured.
Book exhibition will also be organized. One man Yakshagana is the highlight of this convention which is scheduled at 3.00 pm.
Committee working president N T Raja, secretary Arehole Sadashiva Rao and Philip Pereira among others were present at the press meet.
