Bengaluru: Kanara Catholic Association holds webinar on equity investment

Media Release

Bengaluru, Jan 18: KCA (Kanara Catholic Association), the oldest Mangalorean Catholic Association in Bangaluru held a webinar on equity investment in the midst of the raging Covid/Omricon wave to great interest and participation.

Over 100 people attended the webinar. The reactions from members were highly appreciative and most felt that they greatly benefited from the enormous knowledge sharing and the expertise of the speakers.

The speakers were market gurus Kenneth Andrade, Sanjay Dham and Ruchi Pandey. The importance of Equity investment is important as India's first equity index the BSE SENSEX was launched on 2nd Jan 1986 (Base Year:1978-79 =100). It stands at 60,385 as on January 10, 2022. Simply put, an investment of Rs 100 in 1986 is worth Rs 60,385 today, an amazing return far exceeding most other forms of wealth creation. Thus it is even more important in this day and age to understand the equity markets.

As the legendary investor Warren Buffet said, “The most important quality in an investor is temperament, not intellect!”. That is why having luminaries like Kenneth Andrade was so important. Kenneth’s experience in portfolio management includes 10 years at IDFC Asset Management Company, ranked amongst the top in the Mutual Fund industry in India.

At IDFC, Kenneth was responsible for the performance of a corpus of US$8 billion, as chief investment officer. He was responsible for building the firm’s equity franchise and managed one of India’s largest equity funds by AUM. The IDFC Premier Equity Fund which delivered a CAGR growth of 22.3% over the ten-year period.

Other key points brought out during the webinar was the prediction of a boon in the consumer discretionary spending, and real estate housing market in the South in the next 3 years on account of the massive increase in IT incomes. This is heartening in the face of the present Covid pandemic and offers some cheer for the future.

The webinar hosted by KCA was open to members of FKCA, KONCAB & KE, many of whom participated in the lively Q & A that followed. The entire webinar was hosted with great aplomb by Nivedeth Alva.
