Puttur, Dec 15: After a 60-tonne vehicle bring machinery equipment to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals in Mangalore lost balance and fell on the Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 17 at Marnahally within Sakleshpur rural police station limits on Monday December 13 afternoon, traffic on the road was severely affected.

As this 100-tyre truck blocked the major portion of the highway, the traffic got stranded. After the policemen came and cleared a part of the road, vehicles had to move at snail’s pace. This stretch of the road, which is congested as well as thoroughly damaged, is already heaping woes on the road users.

The above accident caused further trouble for the vehicles. It is reported that the vehicle, which moved very slowly, had left Mumbai three months ago. Local cranes tried their bust, but failed to make an impact. No other departments except MRPL have the equipment to lift this heavy vehicle loaded with machinery from the spot. The policemen said that MRPL, which was contacted, did not do anything to clear the road till Tuesday night.
