Udupi: Yashpal Suvarna welcomes education minister's stand on Hijab

Udupi, Jan 20: “The firm stance by the minister of education Nagesh on the Hijab controversy in Udupi Women’s Government PU College that it was not a religious centre and indiscipline was unwelcome, is acceptable,” said the College Development Committee vice president Yashpal Suvarna.

“A handful of students have created confusion regarding Hijab in college since the past few days, vitiating the educational environment in college and disturbing the studies,” he retorted.

"Some fanatics with the support of anti social elements have created a country wide propaganda for political reasons and are maligning the image of the college. They are spoiling the name of the district which is known for education globally.”
“It is unfortunate that some female students are creating a controversy over Hijab violating the rules of uniform clothing in a college that provides top class education equivalent to private schools," he lamented.

Suvarna asserted that following the regulations of the college was the duty of every student. "The college administration does not give any room to violate discipline in order to follow religious practices. Let the students continue their education in colleges where religious practices are permitted if it is difficult to follow regulations here. There is no question of allowing unacceptable behavior that is against the educational practices of the college,” reiterated Yashpal Suvarna.
