Bantwal: Atrocity case booked against former taluk panchayat member

Bantwal, Jan 20: A former taluk panchayat member is facing an atrocity case for allegedly abusing a wall man belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community.

The accused is Sri Krishna, now a social worker for two years. complainant is Rajesh (26), a resident of Janatha Colony, Chandalike, Vittal Kasaba village of Bantwal Taluk.

Rajesh works as a wall-man on a contract basis under Vittal  Town Panchayath and belongs to the Scheduled Tribes' community. On January 18, former Town Panchayat  member Sri Krishna reportedly used abusive language against Rajesh while he was on duty and also insulted his caste. Krishna is also accused of stating that Krishna was showing attitude despite being a Maratha Nayak caste and his kind should be thrown out of work.  

Police have registered a case under Section 504  of IPC and Section 3(1)(s) SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, 2015).
