New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS) India is worried about Pakistani support for "terrorist modules" in Indian territory, according to fresh US embassy cables leaked by WikiLeaks.

Writing about the "extra-territorial dimensions of terrorism in India", the cables -- reproduced in the Guardian newspaper -- says that "jehadi terrorism ... is a significant irritant in Indo-Pakistan relations".

The latest cables relate to the period between Jan 30 and Feb 19 this year when M.K. Narayanan was still the national security advisor (NSA).

One cable quoted government statements and Indian media as suggesting that "cross-border infiltration" -- the movement of terrorists from Pakistan to India -- had dropped significantly in March-April, "perhaps nearly to zero in March largely due to severe snow conditions" but added that "skeptics remain throughout the Indian bureaucracy and security services.

"Most of our GOI (government of India) interlocutors believe Islamabad opens and closes the spigot of cross-border terrorism to influence other aspects of bilateral affairs and to keep 'the Kashmir issue' on the front burner.

"NSA Narayanan in March told the (British) High Commissioner (that) he was less worried about LoC (Line of Control) infiltration than he was about Pakistani intelligence support for terrorist modules elsewhere in India -- such as the cells responsible for the Delhi and Bangalore attacks.

"Another growing concern is that jehadis are infiltrating into northeast India from Nepal and Bangladesh," it said.
