Udupi, Dec 20: Book release function and seminar the Importance of Folk University was held under the auspices of Kemmalaje Janapada Prakashana at Hotel Durga International here on Sunday December 19.
Goa University retired professor S N D Poojary inaugurating the seminar said lot of research needs to be done on the Tulu culture, especially on native beliefs, bhootaradhane and kola. Training for the interested through internet and also by opening training centre too can be taken up, he added.
Linguistic scholar Dr U P Upadhyaya and Prof Poojary together released the books, Tulunada Maariyamma, Nudikattu and books written on Babu Amin.
Kemmalaje chairman Dr Gananath Ekkar presided. Upadhyaya, Poojary and Shekar Kalmadi were felicitated.
Folk scholar S A Krishnaiah spoke on the importance of folk university.
Muddu Moodubelle, Dr Duggappa Kajekar, Kudi Vasant Shetty, Dr Niketan and Pratapchandra Shetty also spoke on the subject.
