Goa, Jan 31: A man, who used to steal bikes was arrested by the Colvale police on Saturday.
Jitendra Shankar Toraskar (40) was taken into custody by the police in this connection.
A complaint of bike theft was filed by Vinayak Kadam, native of Kolhapur and now residing in Panaji on Saturday that was parked at Tivim. When the police searched they found the said bike in Toraskar’s possession. He was apprehended by the police.
Police unearthed during the interrogation that Jitendra is involved in a series of bike thefts in Colvale area, in addition to cars. They confiscated a two cars, one with fake number plate and another without any valid documents. Three bikes without number plates and a scooter without documents were also recovered from him.
The accused had dumped seven engines of various two -wheelers in garbage as well as two petrol tanks. The value of the confiscated goods from the accused is said to be Rs 6.5 lac.
Accused Shankar used to steal the vehicles and modify them in his garage at Tivim. The team which caught Shankar included ASI Rohidas Naik, PSI Mandar Parab, PI Somnath Malike, Sajo Dessai, Sulesh Naik and Rama Naik.
