Shri Ram Sena chief's remarks on kicking out students wearing Hijab triggers row

Hubballi, Feb 2 (IANS): Shri Ram Sena Chief Pramod Muthalik's statement that students insisting on wearing a Hijab to the classroom showed their terrorist mindset and they should be kicked out of the schools, has triggered a controversy in the state.

Muthalik had stated on Tuesday, February 1, "This stubborn mindset on wearing a hijab to the classroom will take students to terrorism. Now, they start with the hijab, later they ask for burqa and afterwards they will demand namaz and mosque. Is this your religious centre or school?," Muthalik questioned.

He urged the government not to allow any public debate or discourse on the issue. The students who are insisting on wearing a Hijab should be issued transfer certificates and be kicked out. This mindset is dangerous, he maintained.

"You have freedom to wear clothes of your choice at home. But, once students enter the school premises, one has to abide by regulations. "Are you making India, a Pakistan or Afghanistan? If you demand a burqa or a Hijab you can go to Pakistan," he said.

The statements have stirred a controversy in the state which is already coping with the Hijab row. The students agitating over wearing a Hijab to class in Udupi Pre University College have approached the High Court seeking relief. The government has set up a committee to decide the issue. Until then the government has asked students not to wear a hijab. However, the students have defied the order and say that wearing a Hijab is their constitutional right.

In my opinion schools/colleges must have religious free attire, When you are at home you are Hindu/Muslim/Christain/Sikh when you are out school/college/office be an indian/Hindustani. Students should be brought up in a neutral environment, and must be trained to be a responsible citizen. Bringing religion into school/streets/offices will only compound the situation.

Where were these politicians all these years? What contribution have they done for education? How many jobs have they created for the youth? These are the questions to be asked and with fighting for the future of the student.. in terms of covering head , not wearing footwear is irrelevant. Educate the students to ensure they have a future and not to be a jobless politician who speaks such disgusting topics. Is it his culture to make students fight in the name of religion? Earlier he came up with the useless pink chaddi issue.. it’s a disgrace that people even listen to him.

They are studying in Government school which can save their money as they may not be rich to afford to study in private school... Look, its not where they are studying... It's a Government run school on Tax Payers.... So what is wrong all if they are asking is to cover their head along with the school uniform??? First understanding what and why is Hijab is important that protesting it for the sake of hatred..... By they way, for the sake of argument, when other faiths girls and boys are allowed to wear Bindi and Ayyapa dress respectively, Sikhs their Turban, Perform Ayudha Pooja and other Poojas etc, then don't these protesters think that is not Religious belief that should be avoided too as it's a school and not any Religious place as claimed by so called high intellectuals and leaders of their Faith, but infact hatred mongers and rowdies in disguise..... Look, Jaahils and their Jihalath were there before too in past, are available today, and will be there till the day of Judgement..... Their purpose is just to create disturbance on earth and trouble and harm other faith people whom they hate just coz their ideologies and belief doesn't match with other faith and also for the reason that other faith don't succumb to their pressure irrespective of very less in number, that's coz, it is not the strength of armory they possess, nor position, nor money or influence, it's the Imaan/belief that makes them stronger.... And that Imaan comes from understanding Holy Quran & Implementing in their life..... The more the pressure is built the more the imaan will grow stronger.... These Jaahils, (Mischief mongers) should look back at history. You bring whatever power you have, you can't deviate even an inch for a person who is imbibed with true Imaan....

"This stubborn mindset on wearing a hijab to the classroom will take students to terrorism. Now, they start with the hijab, later they ask for burqa and afterwards they will demand namaz and mosque." Every government school or that run by a certain community conducts Sharada Pooja in Schools. Which constitution are they following ? No, I am not supporting the students who are demanding to allow the use of hijab but what explanation do Hindu groups have to my question ?
