Kundapur, Feb 7: Railway passengers’ welfare committee Kundapur, Clean Kundapura project, Konkan railway corporation, gram panchayat Kandavara, MIT college Kundapura (NSS), Lions Club Kundapura Amrithadhara, Chandana Yuvaka Mandala Beejadi-Gopadi, Dharmasthala rural development scheme disaster management, Rashtra Sevika Kundapur and forest department Kundapur held huge Swacchata Abhiyan at railway station surroundings of the city on the morning of Sunday, February 6.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganesh Putran, president of railway passengers’ welfare committee said, “We have been carrying out protests for cleanliness of railway station, stoppage of trains and service since many years. As a part of the same campaign this programme of cleaning the railway station surrounding and planting of saplings is being held. This programme will be held continuously in order to maintain cleanliness of this place.”
The programme of planting saplings in front of Kundapur railway station was carried out.
Konkan railway divisional chief B B Nikkam, engineer Venkatesh, assistant engineer Subodh Kumar, station master Prasanna Kumar Shetty, Ganesh Putran, Rajesh Kaveri, Vivek Nayak, Raghavendra Shet, Nagaraja Achar, Udaya Bhandarkat, Joy Carvalho, Abhijit Kotari, Santhosh Moodlakatte, Bharath Bangera, Aniketh Shenoy, Santhosh, Sumanth, Arun, Shashidhar, Saraswarti Putran, Kalpana Bhaskar, Prema Padiyar, Malati Bangera, Girish Upadhyaya, Madhava Achar, Gopal Madivala, Kishor and members of local auto rickshaw driver-cum-owners’ association were present.
Speaking after the programme, B B Nikkam, chief of Konkan railway said, “Maintaining cleanliness should not be limited to one person. That should be the social responsibility of everyone. It is the duty of every civilian to maintain cleanliness in public places as well as houses.”
