Moodbidri, Feb 10: Several Jain leaders from the town handed over a complaint seeking registration of a criminal case against Congress leader Ayub Khan, at the police station here. The letter was handed over on Wednesday February 9 by the angry people who criticized Khan for his insulting remarks about Gomateshwara, who is revered by those following Jainism.
They said that in an interview on a television channel, Ayub Khan had advised the Jains to see that Gomateshwara, who is standing in indecent posture, wears shorts. They also claimed that Khan also made remarks like Gomateshwara has been made to stand on the hill in an ugly way. They said that besides hurting the sentiments of the Jains, Khan has also sown the seeds of hatred between people of different faiths. As his statements have the potential of hurting the harmony in the society, they urged the police to take suitable legal steps against the accused.
Police sub-inspector Sudeep, received the complaint. Advocate Shweta Jain, Jain leaders like Anada Dinesh Kumar, Mahendravarma Jain, Rashmita Jain, Namiraj Jain, Padmaprasad Jain, Yatiraj Shetty etc were present.
