AIADMK candidate for urban polls found dead at Kancheepuram


Chennai, Feb 10 (IANS): AIADMK leader and party candidate for the 36th ward in Kancheepuram municipal corporation, Janakiraman (36) was found dead at his home on Thursday.

His father said that his son committed suicide due to threat from his political opponents.

Janakiraman was the ward secretary of the AIADMK and was actively canvassing for votes in the 36th ward of Kancheepuram municipality and was pitted against DMK leader Subburayan.

Former Chief Minister and leader of Opposition Edappad K. Palaniswami had introduced him and other candidates to the public in Kancheepuram on Wednesday evening at a public function.

The deceased AIADMK leader was a bachelor and his family members found him dead in his room on Thursday morning. His father Venugopal alleged that his son committed suicide due to threats from his political opponents and called upon the police to conduct a free and fair investigation to bring the culprits who have driven him to suicide before justice.

AIADMK cadres led by Member of Parliament, Kanchi Paneerselvam, party district secretary and former minister, V. Somasundaram, and former MLA, P. Ganesan blocked the road connecting Kancheepuram to Chengalpattu and conducted a protest demanding justice for Janakiraman. The Vishnu Kanchi police have registered a case and are investigating.
