Kundapur, Dec 28: A Padayatra was taken out in the town on Monday December 27 to muster support for Congress candidates in the zilla and taluk panchayat elections. District Congress president, Gopal Poojary, his predecessor, M A Gafoor, MLC, Pratapchandra Shetty, KPCC member, Dinesh Putran, zilla panchayat candidate, Devanand Shetty, taluk panchayat candidate, Chenna Poojary, former municipal president, Devaki Sannaiah and other party leaders participated in the Padayatra.

Speaking to reporters later, former union minister, Oscar Fernandes, felt that the BJP government in the state has lost moral right to speak about corruption, as it has been actively breeding corruption in the state. He said that the Congress has been urging the union government to take steps against the state government, as its action in plundering mineral wealth and involvement with corrupt activities have been proved by Lokayukta reports. He also demanded resignation of minister Janardan Reddy relating to income tax evasion row, asserting that the report about the tax evasion was prepared after careful scrutiny by the income tax officials.

He exuded confidence of a fine performance by his party in both taluk and zilla panchayat elections.

K Gopal Poojary, who also addressed press conference, said that the party will be able to get 30 out of the 35 taluk panchayat seats in the election. He condemned minister, Dr V S Acharya’s statement, expressing doubts about the mental stability of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Parameshwar. “Acharya is inching towards retirement. He should understand that the same comment applies to himself,” he added.

He also criticized MP, Raghavendra, of doling out empty promises during the Lok Sabha election, and failing to visit the constituency thereafter. He claimed that the MP has again visited the constituency during the election time just to make further promises of development projects. “Laying the foundation stones does not serve any purpose. The MP seems to have forgotten that execution of projects is of paramount importance,” he added.
