Hebri, Feb 12: G N Lokanna (54), a resident of Ginakal village in Sringeri taluk ended his life by consuming poison. His body was found inside his car that was parked on the second bend of Agumbe ghat road. The incident happened on Thursday February 10.
It is learnt that he had raised loans from the bank and credit cooperative society for raising areca nut plantation. As the areca nut trees were afflicted with diseases, he did not get harvest as expected. He was burdened with the thought of being unable to repay the loan raised by him because of heavy losses he faced.
He stopped the Maruti Omni car which he was driving by the side of the road on the second road bend on Agumbe ghat located in Nadpal village. He got seated in the backseat and consumed poison. A case relating to the incident was filed in Hebri police station.
