Udupi, Feb 13: Sharmila S, senior civil judge and member secretary for District Legal Services Authority inaugurated the Children of Alcoholics Awarenees Week 2022 programme at Jagannath Bhavan and Badagubettu Credit Cooperative Society here on Sunday, February 13.
Children of Alcoholics Awareness Week 2022 programme was jointly organized by Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Rotary Club of Manipal, Rotaract Club of Manipal, IMA Udupi- Karvali, Samskrithi Pratishtana, District Legal Services Authority and city Bar Association and Badagubettuu Credit Cooperative Society to raise awareness among youths on the ill effects of alcohol.
Justice Sharmila S, addressing the programme said, "A habit of alcohol always turns to addiction. Alcoholics lack control over their mind. Alcohol addiction in a family deprives children of good education and a dignified life in society. The awareness programmes will help people to overcome addiction. A person should quit alcohol to for a happy family and a bright future. If parents have drinking habits, then their children are very likely to get into it. Hence, keep yourself away from these addictions."
Apart from this, Justice Sharmila highlighted family disputes caused by alcoholism. "A Mega Lok Adalat will be held on March 12 in Udupi. Most of the cases were solved by reconciling the conflicting parties. It is always better to solve the disputes by mutual involvement rather than settling them in the court," she added
Jayakar SHetty, Indrali, president, Udupi District Cooperative Union said, ‘Most of the children are suffering everyday due to family disputes. Most of the parents blame their children just because they are not listening to them. Apart from providing a good education, it is also the responsibility of the parents to ensure a good atmosphere at home. Let us eradicate bad habits among children with collective efforts. For that, everyone should form a proper system and work committedly."
Dr P V Bhandary, director, A V Baliga Memorial Group of Institutions, Udupi presided over the programme.
Prof Shankar, well known international magician, Dr Vinayak Shenoy, president, IMA Udupi-Karavali and Vishwanath Shenoy were present on the dais.
Renowned psychiatrist Dr Virupaksha Devarumane welcomed the guests.
