Bangalore: Kuvempu's Birth Anniversary celebrated

Bangalore, Dec 30: G S Siddalingaiah, writer and former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat said that Jnanpith award-winning poet Kuvempu showed that an epic could be written in modern languages through his Kannada work Sri Ramayana Darshanam.

He was speaking at Kuvempu's birth anniversary celebrations organized by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat here on Wednesday December 29. Likening Kuvempu's life to that of vachanakaras, he said that Kuvempu was daring enough to comment on social evils.

Parishat president R K Nallur Prasad presided.

A poet's meet too was held on the occasion.
